FILES - Denied Membership

FILES - Denied Membership

Sometimes it is necessary to deny membership due to inappropriate profiles, usernames, or prior bad acts with other groups. Inappropriate profiles and/or usernames are a subjective issue, and local policies can vary between group moderators as to what is acceptable or not. Although Freecycle™ does not have a specific policy on this practice, this section has been included, and addresses denied memberships based on inappropriate profiles and/or usernames.

Here are a few examples you can use for your files regarding Denied/Rejected Membership. Simply copy and paste... and feel free to edit as necessary!

***Replace all XXX references with your local group name***

Example #1 - Denied Membership - Misc

Hello,

This is just a quick note to let you know your pending membership to XXX Freecycle(TM) was denied.

If you think you were denied in error, you are more than welcome to try to rejoin the group. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us with your concerns. Thank you.

Example #2 - Denied Membership - Profile/Username

If you are reading this that means that for some reason we rejected your membership request to join the XXX Freecycle(TM) group.
The main reasons for being rejected would be:

(1) That your profile is not G-Rated, meaning that it either contains curse words or porn. Our particular Freecycle group has guidelines stating that all username and/or profiles must be G-Rated and appropriate for all ages.
(2) That for some other reason a moderator felt that you may have caused a problem in our Freecycle group. If that is the case you should receive a private e-mail with the reason(s) why.

If your profile and/or username is the reason for rejection, please make the appropriate change(s) and we will gladly approve your membership request. Thank you.

Example #3- Denied Membership - Profile/Username

Thank you for your interest in joining our group and participating in our local gift-giving community! We're terribly sorry, but we're unable to approve your application for membership at this time. You see, all content
on XXX Freecycle(TM) must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages. While our member list is closed, should you post to the group, anyone will be able to view your adult profile. In the interest of preserving our family-friendly atmosphere, would you be kind enough to create a new, G-rated profile, just for us?

To do so:
- Go to http://my.yahoo.com and log into your Yahoo account
- Click on "My Account" at the top of the page
- On the right side, in the "Public Information" section, click on "Edit/Create Profiles"
- At the top of the page, click on "Create New Public Profile"
- Name your new profile, enter your G-rated information, and click on "Create Profile" at the bottom of the page
- On the application to join our group, click on the drop-down menu in the "Yahoo! Profile" section, and select the new profile you created, instead of the default.

That's all there is to it! The process will only take a few moments of your time. We look forward to welcoming you to our group!
