ADMIN Notices - Holidays Approaching/Dealing with Excess WANTED posts and Charity Requests

***Replace all XXX references with your local group name***

Greetings All,

With the holiday season upon us, we anticipate a surge in the list of WANTED posts. We just want to remind everyone that Freecycle(TM) is not designed to be a wish list. Sadly, there just isn't any way for us to take care of all the families out there in need. There are many other organizations in the area that are specifically designed for this task and are much more capable.

Freecycle exists as a forum to help people give away items that they would otherwise be *throwing away*. We are here to OFFER things that we have but no longer want or need. We do not object to wanted posts and in fact, this is an integral part of the cycle of gifting. When we *are* able to meet needs, as does happen on occasions, that is a wonderful blessing to us all.

With that being said, we would like to point out a few things about WANTED posts. Please do not include a story of why you want something, or who it is for. You don't have to justify your request. We kindly ask that you help us to keep the site objective, and simply post "WANTED: Item". The body of the email will be reserved for only details necessary to explain what the item is, or possibly your location and willingness to pick up, or even just a simple thank you.

We work very hard to keep the site up to date for everyone. Thank you in advance for lowering the moderator's work by sticking to the guidelines. We thank you for remembering the focus of this list and for your participation in this group. Together, we are all making a substantial difference in keeping usable items out of the landfill. And what a wonderful gift that is to the planet -- and to us all.

We wish you a Happy Holiday Season,

Your Moderators

WebsiteRules & Etiquette Guidelines

NO OFFERING YOURSELF OR YOUR CHILDREN.

Posting oneself (or one's shy friends) is, I'm afraid, not allowed.

There are many fine Internet dating sites better suited to this purpose, or you could try Craig's List or a Burning Man mixer (just kidding). Posting your kids is not on the menu either, no matter how crazy they make you sometimes.

Try getting them involved in after-school band practice.

DocumentDo's and Don'ts for Freecycle™ Moderators

*** DO LIVE WHERE YOUR GROUP IS LOCATED. We ask that moderators only have a group in an area they actually live in. You then know best the local recycling facilities, local Earth Day dates, local meet-up sites, local recycling nonprofit groups, etc. Moderators may own (or be the lead moderator on) only one group. They may be back-up moderators on other groups as their schedule allows. For example, some moderators back-up their neighboring groups. Being an owner of more than one group is not allowed.
