Pets on Freecycle

We are allowing animals because they are often disposed of, ending up in shelters then put down and incinerated, therefore they meet the 'landfill test'.

Animals were banned for a short while, mostly because members feared that animals not paid for may be poorly treated, but after a number of complaints were lodged against the banning of animals we held a group poll in which a strong majority of voters were in favour of allowing list members to Freecycle to re-home animals (78% on the Bideford group and 68% on the North Devon group). Nationally (and even internationally) groups seem to be about 50/50 split as to whether or not they accept animals.

In the westcountry North Devon, Bath, St Austell, Bude, Penazance, Stroud, and Swindon accept animals. Tewkesbury, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Ashot, Bedminister and Southville and Bristol do not accept animals.
