Telluride Daily Planet - News

Telluride is now hooked into an Internet-based network called The Freecycle Network, which allows people to post items they would like to give away — or that they are seeking — and coordinate all the details of the swapping online.

“Basically it’s an online Free Box,” said Sustainability Coordinator Kris Holstrom.

This project is one of the first being undertaken by New Community Coalition, the fledgling governing board of Holstrom, who was hired as Sustainability Coordinator in January.

Environmental Awareness Month: The reality is that the state of our environment contributes to our wellness, from the air that we breathe to the water we drink. That’s why it’s important each person does their part to contribute to a healthy environment. In the Feb. 28 edition of Two Minutes, we highlighted the Web site, www.freecycle.org, which allows resident to recycle their goods and products amongst each other. Through the Star-Gazette’s StoryChat feature, we have since learned that the Elmira group has more than 1,400 members who span a 40-mile radius, according to the Elmira Freecycle group’s moderator who posted a comment.

Your Trash is Another Person’s Treasure : Gina Hughes : Yahoo! Tech

We all love free stuff, don’t we? There are a lot of good folks out there that want to recycle their unwanted items instead of throwing them away. This is extremely good for the planet, and for college students looking for furniture to decorate their first apartment too. Spring cleaning is around the corner, so when you start sorting out stuff in your basement, keep in mind that there are locals in your area who would love to take those items from your hands.
Here are a few sites where you can give away unwanted items, as well as find a few free ones for yourself:

Free Cycle: I recently told you about FreeCycle , a website where eco-friendly citizens recycle their unwanted items by giving them away to others. Users can find some pretty cool items in their area, and all you have to do to get it is reply to the ad. All items listed are free, so you can either give or get neat stuff.

abc7news.com: One Man’s Trash, Another Man’s Treasure

Feb. 28 - KGO - Most of us have heard of eBay or Craigslist where good deals can occasionally be found. But what about something for free — no strings? Something called “Freecycle” is apparently catching on big around the Bay Area.

We live in a wide, wonderful world of plenty. Some of that plenty may look like junk, but it’s also a matter of interpretation.

Stan Flouirde, San Francisco: “I’ve collected about 14,000 computer keyboards.”

Stan Flouride of San Francisco, for instance, is on a quest to gather enough computer keys to cover one entire automobile for an art project.

Collector’s Corner: Computer Hardware/Software Update

Regarding my old Axis PC, Joy from Enola, Pennsylvania, recommended posting it to Freecycle (http://freecycle.org). Freecycle was founded in 2003 to provide “individuals and non-profits an electronic forum to “recycle” unwanted items.” Joy said that on her list (local group) “someone rehabs them (computers) for poor kids and someone else takes them apart for usable components.”
