Everything is available: Local freecycling groups never let anything go to waste By TIFFANY ST. MARTIN

Filed under: US Southern, News Articles, The Web — Julia @ 6:45 am

The World Wide Web offers a potpourri of products, with all sorts of creature comforts available with the click of a mouse. First the fad was eBay, then it was craigslist and now Freecycle groups allow Internet users to offer up goods as boxed-and-bowed gifts for anyone who wants them.

Everything from magazines and books to kitchen appliances to cars and trucks is available via local Yahoo! freecycling groups - there are separate ones for Bradenton and Manatee County - and Lisa Bapst’s family has even given away a rescued dog.

The Joy of Free Recycling By Sara Ann Conkling

Filed under: US Southern, News Articles, The Web — Julia @ 10:50 am

Here’s a great interview and article on Merritt Island Freecycle’s very own Moderator Marcia Barton…

“Does free recycling work? The answer is yes, no and sometimes. Free recycle
groups can work very well for decluttering a home. A large percentage of
offers made on free recycle groups are responded to by members requesting
the item. And nothing is too strange to give away – even broken items are
sometimes adopted by those who can fix them. “We’ve had people give away
bags of rags, or odd socks,” says Marcia Barton, a moderator of free recycle
groups in central and south Brevard. “There’s almost nothing that can be
given away that someone can’t use.”
