Freecycle works through Yahoo! Groups, where it has earned the Yahoo! Green designation by being a source that keeps, according to www.freecycle.org, 300 tons of items from going to the landfill every day. It is free to join your local group, and works through an e-mail bulletin board system. Members can choose to receive individual e-mails in their inboxes, or a daily digest that tells them items that have been posted as offered, taken or wanted. They can reply to offers or wants via e-mail where they make arrangements to give or receive another member’s unwanted stuff. It is run by a volunteer local moderator who has the support of other volunteers around the world.
