• To get ready for a batch of new things, round up all the toys, clothes, tchatchkes, tools, appliances, and anything else you can think of that you no longer need or use. The Columbus group has 10,000 members across all social strata, from “The Bottoms” to New Albany, Jenn M. said. Most members likely found out about the group through word of mouth since she founded it in 2003.

Pelo mundo afora, o Freecycle (criado no Arizona, EUA) já tem quase 4 milhões de membros, distribuídos em mais de 4 mil grupos. No Brasil, há comunidades no Rio de Janeiro (atualmente com 59 membros), Curitiba (com 33 membros) e São Paulo (195 membros). Impressoras, toca-discos, monitores, um piano, cobertores… e até uma estufa de consultório odontológico já foram trocados aqui por brasileiros. Tudo isso sem usar dinheiro, cheque ou cartão de crédito. O seu bolso agradece e o meio ambiente também.

I’ve heard of people who shop Craigslist and/or Ebay for their wedding supplies, but today was the first I’ve heard of those who get their wedding supplies free through an organization called Freecycle.

On a recent expedition to Decarie to collect a bamboo tray I scored from Freecycle, I realized there remain traces of the quarter’s old charm, from the time before it was so brutally divided by the expressway. Among my discoveries was the Pearl of Manila on Decarie proper, between Côte-Ste-Catherine and Van Horne. A Filipino joint like this is a rare find in Montreal…..
