Philadelphia Inquirer: Kick your unwanted stuff to the curb

Evelyn Hughes, a moderator for Orlando, Fla., Freecycle, an 8,700-person group whose members exchange free items through an online community, said she hadn’t heard of it yet but liked the concept.

“Actually, it’s kind of a neat idea,” said Hughes, whose group is part of the national Freecycle Network. But she worried that if word doesn’t get around, many curbs will be left bare. She said that if people tell her they are participating, she’ll share their street name with other members.

Your trash may be someone else’s treasure at Freecycle

It’s become a popular autumn event in the Napanee area.

It’s not an organized trip to a pumpkin patch, or to see the fall colours, although both are lovely ways to spend an afternoon.

It’s the annual Freecycle event, run in conjunction with the annual large-item drop off at the Richmond Landfill on Beechwood Road. This year it takes place from Monday, Oct. 20 - Saturday, Oct. 25.

VILLAGERS will be exchanging goods at a freecycle day next month.

The event will be held in the new Wedmore car park on September 14 from 10am-12noon.

The two rules for the day are that no money must change hands and participants should take home what they cannot give away.

Times Herald Record: New home for piles of old stuff

NEW PALTZ — Before there was Craig’s List, before there was Freecycle, there was the Hudson Valley Materials Exchange.

And if you measure success by sheer volume, the latest incarnation of the Materials Exchange is wildly so. You could say it’s overstuffed with success, by several thousand square feet of untold and essentially homeless treasure from the local waste stream.
