Hand me downs are coming back into fashion, said Ward. “Babies stop using things so quickly, there’s really no reason not to pass things around,” she said. Use the Freecycle Network (freecycle.org) to give and get clothes and baby furniture for free.
A new website in Huron County is encouraging people to recycle things they might otherwise be throwing out and helping keep those items out of land fill sites.
Freecycle Spokesperson Cindy Palmetier says people can post any objects on the website that they’re willing to give away or they can post something they’re looking for.
Anyone wanting to get involved can Google Freecycle and select Huron County Ontario. Canada and the web site will direct them from there.
I spent Sunday doing some work around the house. I pulled everything out of the closets and storage areas for a little reorganizing.
In the process, I came across things that I no longer want or need. I thought about donating them.
But then I had a better idea. I decided to list them on Freecycle. On Freecycle, you can exchange things you no longer want.
We speak with Deron Beal, founder and executive director of Tucson, Arizona based Freecycle.org, a non-profit, online movement that claims millions of members and keeps tons of trash out of landfills by offering a “cyber-sharing” clearinghouse.

Though TreeHugger prefers Buy Nothing Day to the sheer madness of Black Friday, that doesn’t mean you have to live with less or even that you can’t acquire stuff; a great way to do this is with something like The Freecycle Network (it really works!).
