Freecycle.org is a site that lets you give away your old items, and pick up new ones, without any bartering allowed. Users post items they`re hoping to get rid of, and other members of the group use e-mails to get those items for themselves.

“They actually encourage you not just to respond to the first person who e-mails you, but make an e-mail, send it out, then get some replies and see, if there`s somebody you think really needs it,” says Peter Schultz, who uses the site.

Schultz has been part of Free Cycle for about three years, and says it`s a way to get rid of things around the house you don`t want anymore, without having to take them to the trash.

We were with Ricci when she decided to get rid of some of her stuff on the freecycle network.

It’s easy. She types an email offering her things to anyone who wants it or needs it.

“Within about 3 minutes, I got three responses for my flip phone, and I got one response for my suit jacket, and I expect the other things will be gone pretty quickly too,” said Ricci.

Here’s how it works: You sign up for a group in whatever part of metro Atlanta you live in — that way you don’t have to drive far to get what you want. There are two rules, though — no buying and no bartering. This is strictly freecycling.

“I have been so excited about freecycle ever since it began and I’m not the only one,” said Clark. “There are up to 500 million pounds of stuff that people have donated that didn’t got into a landfill and what’s so neat is, think about this chair I own! I don’t need this anymore but someone else could love this thing.”

You can also post a wanted ad on freecycle. “I often see people posting, ‘Wanted: Baby Clothes,’ or ‘Wanted: Pet Items,’ so as long as you’re offering as much as you’re asking for, everything is fine,” said Ricci.

“In this economy, the stuff you don’t want anymore can be really important to someone else,” said Clark.

TINY Max O’Donoghue doesn’t know what all the fuss is about when he is pushed around in his antique pram.
As the 15-month-old peers out of his black traditional Harris drop-front pram, passers-by cannot help but marvel at the 74-year-old carriage.

His grandmother Sue O’Donoghue, of Clay Lane, Fishbourne, could not believe her luck when she discovered the antique on free community swap-shop network Freecycle.

As I write this, I’m staring at my new vacuum. Do you know what’s great about this vacuum? It’s a token of a free world that’s all around you and you know nothing about. Imagine it: Hot tubs! And you can — I tried it myself.

The gift of giving is extending well beyond the holidays in one Lebanon County community.One woman helped brighten the spirits of dozens of kids for Christmas, and her generosity is spilling over into the New Year.

Etzweiler with some help from her little elves went onto the Freecycle website to find out whom in her area needed toys for Christmas. And thanks to the eight truck loads of new and gently used toys and stuffed animals donated by her mother, she was able to put a smile on many faces.
