Be aware of phishing scam messages

Hi everyone,

I want to take a minute to remind you to be aware of the messages you receive. There are phishing and scam messages sent to members that intend to look like they're from Freecycle or another member. 

For example, one of our members recently received the following: 

Support {35229312}   
Dear user, Our security system has detected unusual activity on your account. To avoid suspension, please verify your bank details using the secure link below. If you do not complete the verification process within the next 24 hours, access to your account will be restricted. htps://don't_click.really. Regards, Freecycle Security Team

I mocked the URL, but you get the point. Please remember that if you receive a phishing spam message in reply to a post:

  • Do not click the link in the message as this could lead to private information being collected by the spammer.

• Use Contact Moderator in your messages menu to let us know. We will report the scam.

  • The spam message will be automatically removed from your My Messages page.

 • Do not provide credit card details or personal information. • Do not mark the message as Spam or all future Freecycle emails will go to their spam folder.
